Cauwill was founded by two University of Limerick PhD graduates, Ian Rice and Ronan Skehill. While at the University earning their PhD’s in telecommunications and software, they were also responsible for delivering world class research at a national and international level. Together over a ten year period, they helped build the University’s Wireless Access Research Centre into an internationally recognized centre. In 2009, they left the University to spin out their research and established Cauwill Technologies as a company investing their own money into the company. Boosted by early adopters and beta customers, Cauwill in the same year went on to win the InterTradeIreand Best Emerging Company business competition and secured €100,000 investment. In 2010 Cauwill secured their first international customer and in December 2010 made the final of the LeWeb startup company competition - Europe's premier Internet event.
